· Please call me Annie. I am American Born Chinese and became a psychotherapist in my latter years after retiring from teaching Mathematics in a local high school. I am unique due to my life experiences growing up in the projects with immigrant Chinese family, isolated among other minorities, that caused fear, anxieties, low self-esteem and trying to fit in.
· My masters (2008) in counseling education at NYACK college has helped me understand the BIO-PSYCH-SOCIAL-SPIRITUAL dynamics and guided me towards my own healing and insight into why we do the things we do. From my experiences and continued education, I can help individuals, couples, and group members, become aware of emotions that drive their behaviors and thoughts.
Attachment and the lack of attachment in our early years are crucial to address and resolve. Repressed and unconscious traumas can be brought gently to awareness with care and compassion to change defensive behaviors and inappropriate anger.
In a city that never sleeps and the pressures of parents and peer comparisons and lack of fortune adds to toxicities of our culture needs to be addressed and talked about. Talk therapy in a safe place with a non-judgmental therapist can work wonders. I hope to provide that for you.
